• Stefano's paninibar: Our neighbors in the Spijkerboorsteeg. Known for their delicious warm paninis. And if you're in the mood to treat yourself, go for an affogato for dessert.

• 30ML: Stromarkt 29. A wide selection, whether you prefer a sweet or savory breakfast. Great for early birds too, as they have earlier opening hours than most places in Deventer.

• Café Zuiderlicht: Zandpoort 9. On the way to the Brink parking garage. A unique menu with delightful surprises.

• KoffieDok: Scheepvaartstraat 6B. Just outside the Deventer city center, a 12-minute walk away, in the trendy harbor district (Havenkwartier). They roast their own coffee and bake their own sourdough bread. Not open every day.

Lunch

For a tasty break during your exploration of Deventer, we would love to share our absolute favorites for a delicious lunch; at these spots, you can enjoy the finest flavors from the area.

• Le Bistro, Brink 80. A French-style bistro. Extensive menu for lunch (and dinner) and a lovely terrace in the summer.

• IJssel Restobar, Worp 2. Lunch with a stunning view of the Deventer skyline. Not just a simple lunch; enjoy a wonderfully extensive 3-course meal, with or without wine. For the ultimate holiday feeling, you can reach it via the ferry across the river IJssel. For a more active outing, include it in your 'bridge to bridge' walk; a 45-minute loop well-known among locals. Features a large terrace.

• No.11. Inspired by Jackies, Grote Poot 11. A popular lunch spot with something for everyone, from sushi to a salad or a sandwich. A very large terrace makes this a summer favorite as well.

• Summer tip: Meadow, Bolswerkweg 11. Also known as the Deventer city beach. Located on the other side of the river IJssel. Think beach club, but by the river. Keep an eye on Google Maps for their flexible opening hours, which are adjusted based on the weather.

Drinks

After a wonderful day of strolling through the city, there is nothing better than settling down somewhere for a good glass and a delicious snack board.

St. Tropez, Brink 28. Perfect terrace with evening sun. Delicious snacks with a matching drink. If you want to stay for dinner afterwards, that is of course possible too.

R.I.O., Welle 21. Also known as the Welle terrace. A casual spot on the quay along the river IJssel. Especially known for its enormous terrace right on the water. In the winter, you can sit inside with a summer vibe and tapas.

DAVO stadsbrouwerij, Sluisstraat 6. ucked away behind the Brink parking garage is an actual city brewery. A superb spot for lovers of beer and snacks.

Diner

The Lemon Tree, Grote Poot 1. A true fine dining experience. If you want to be pampered, this is the place to be. Make sure to book in advance.

Trinibra, Golstraat 6. At Trinibra Sushibar, you can enjoy a combination of Latin American and Mediterranean cuisine with an Asian touch.

Chez Antoinette, Roggestraat 12. You might think: sounds French. Over 50 years ago, Antoinette started a pub. Her grandson has maintained the warm, living-room feel of Chez Antoinette and serves a high-quality Portuguese menu.

Highlights Deventer

• City walk through our beautiful 1,250-year-old Hanseatic city (via the VVV / Tourist Office, our neighbors in the Spijkerboorsteeg), with or without a guide

• Smaakverkenners (Taste Explorers). A different way to discover Deventer. Go on an expedition through the city and enjoy a bite and a drink along the way.

• Shopping: Deventer is known for its many small boutique shops run by independent owners. These boutiques can primarily be found in the following streets: Kleine Overstraat, Grote Overstraat, Engestraat, Broederenstraat, and Walstraat.

Museums:

• De Waag: The historical museum of Deventer.
• EICAS: Modern art, 'From Zero to Now'. Making art from the 1960s onwards accessible.
• Kunstenlab: Located at an exciting industrial site in the Havenkwartier (harbor district) of Deventer, they organize exhibitions where experiment and research take center stage. Artists are given a platform to develop new work, and the public gets to see and experience adventurous art.
• Museum MORE (Gorssel): Museum for modern realism. A 12-minute drive from Deventer.

Events in Deventer

A lot is organized in Deventer. Every weekend there is something special to do. For the most up-to-date agenda, check deventer.info.

A few highlights:

• Irish Pub Festival (February)
• Kelderfest (March) - experience music, theater and more at special underground locations in the city
• Deventer op Stelten (early July) - street theater festival 
• The Deventer Book Fair (first Sunday of August)
• Tour de Terras; end of August. You choose a terrace and stay put. Bands will rotate the terraces and perform while you enjoy your drinks and bites.
• National Heritage Days (Open Monumentendag): Mid-September. Many opportunities to view monuments in Deventer that are normally not accessible.
• De Smaak van Deventer (the Taste of Deventer): Food festival, mid-November
• Dickens Festijn; mid December. A part of town turns into the Dickens era for 2 days.
